Your are Mine

Fans of Punchinello, the little wooden guy who first appeared in You Are Special, will be glad to know he has returned. The residents of Wemmicksville are at it again and one wonders what the woodcarver, Eli, is thinking as he sees his creations, the Wemmicks, trying to one-up each other by giving all their money to build massive collections of boxes and balls. Punchinello foolishly decides he must take part in this madness, because of course one must have many boxes and balls to be a good Wemmick.
After selling everything he has and spending all on so many boxes and balls that he cannot see the path before him, he can do nothing but stumble around blindly. Fortunately for him, he stumbles right into Eli's workshop and there, in the presence of his creator, the absurdity of the Wemmicks' - and his own - obsession becomes clear. Punchinello feels foolish, but Eli is quick to encourage him, to remind him that, "You're special - not because of what you have. You're special because of who you are. You are mine. I love you."
Once again Max Lucado has given our children (and ourselves) a beautiful reminder of who we really are and how much our creator loves us. He and Sergio Martinez have created a book I can easily see our children saving for their own children.
