Queen of Christmas
By
Mary Engelbreit
Publisher
Harper Collins
If you have an organizer in your family, you are sure to recognize Ann Estelle. She's appointed herself Queen of Christmas, and she's set herself the task of ensuring a perfect Christmas. Since Christmas is the biggest gift-giving time of the year, she starts The List. The List is everything she wants for Christmas. She began The List immediately following the preceding Christmas. The List gets longer and longer, and with just seven days until Christmas it is still growing. Ann Estelle enjoys various Christmastime activities, but nothing sufficiently distracts her from continuing to add to The List. Each activity would be better if she just had a sparkly, red skating outfit, her very own apron, or some other thing that would bring Christmas perfection. Ann Estelle heads off to bed Christmas Eve with The List finally finished. Christmas Day arrives and Ann Estelle does have a perfect Christmas. Yes, her presents are all perfect, but as she describes what makes her Christmas perfect, it isn't the things she's gotten but the things she's done with friends and family that she describes. When asked by her father about The List, she responds, "It's not just the presents that matter. Don't you know that?"
Mary Engelbreit's bright illustrations add sparkle to Ann Estelle's world. It's pretty plain that Ann Estelle is having a wonderful Christmas baking, sledding, and trimming the tree.
